CASST has been actively conducting international academic exchanges and cooperation activities in the field of Work Safety, has forged academic exchange and technical cooperation ties with a number of countries and regions including EU, USA, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong, etc., and has organized bilateral or multilateral international cooperation programs, various types of technical training and investigation activities. In recent years, CASST has successfully implemented a number of cooperative projects including the Sino-Japanese “Program for Strengthening Chinese Work Safety Scientific and Technologic Capabilities” and program for “Strengthening Occupational Health Capability Construction” as well as the program for “Sino-European Occupational Safety and Health in High-risk Industries”, etc.

With the “Program for Strengthening Chinese Work Safety Scientific and Technologic Capabilities” (2006-2010), a number of activities were carried out on the basis of the advanced safety management experience and methodology of Japan to construct Chinese law and regulation system, “zero accident” activity, leader training, risk assessment, hazards inspection and remediation training as well as collaboration group activities, etc., and a protection laboratory based on Sino-Japan cooperative respiratory with international advanced level was set up in the CASST. The project has reaped a series of important achievements, which have been popularized and promoted in relevant regions and fields.

The program for “Strengthening Occupational Health Capability Construction” (2011-2016) is targeted at enhancing China’s occupational health administrative supervision and management capabilities as well as occupational health management capabilities of the employers in protection against toxic dust hazards in the demonstration regions. Under the guidance of Japanese experts, a series of activities were conducted, which include dispatching of administrative management personnel to Japan for advanced study and research, training of occupational health management personnel from enterprises, current status investigation of experimental enterprises in the demonstration regions as well as technical transformation of protection facilities, etc., a number training materials were compiled and published, which include “Enterprise Occupational Health Management Personnel Training Material” and “Dust and Toxicant Preventive Ventilation Technologies for Industrial Enterprises”, etc., and a dust and toxicant preventive ventilation technology laboratory with R&D and training functions was set up in the premises of China Academy of Safety Science &Technology.

The program for “Sino-European Occupational Safety and Health in High-risk Industries (EUCOHS)” (2012-2016) supports work safety capability construction in Chinese coal mining, non-coal mining and chemical industries in order to gradually strengthen the effects of the inspection system. It also supports training activities, optimizes training courses, improves skills of trainers, in order to enable Chinese occupational health and safety capabilities to reach EU criteria, thus, effectively improving the occupational safety and health levels of the high-risk sectors.
